Whenever I look back to the times that I have been extremely happy, I notice it was usually down to the importance and significance that I put on what was happening. That means that it was my choice to be happy. I chose in my mind that if x y and z happens then I will be happy. Therefore that means I can control my happiness, if i control what my x y and z are. The reason why it is important for me to be in a happy state is, because I am more productive and a pleasant person to be around. That said there are things that happen in life which are out of our control, that can impact our happiness, but if you focus on the things that make you happy I would argue that it is impossible to not to feel happy in that moment. I hear people say things like, when i get that new job, car or promotion then I'll be happy! To which I often interject and say " Then you will be happier!!! because if you are not already happy with what you have now, you probably will not be happy with more titles, money or fame." Retrospectively many people spend their life searching for happiness, only to discover in the end, that it was inside them all along! I challenge you to start focusing on the things that are good about your life, instead of what is bad.
